    NEVER use sit or sat to describe the act of putting down. REMEMBER that Grandma cannot set down. Grandma can sit down. Most people cannot physically pick Granny up and put her in a chair (setting). If you are able to do that then you are setting Grandma (object) in the chair. At which point she is sitting.
