Police Force Careers plow head-on towards their business goals, against all odd, over every obstacle. They got the money and we got the products and services. The tenth amendment to the constitution confers police powers on the states. There are more than 18,000 police agencies in America today. Police departments at the state level may consist of the State police and the Highway patrol. At the municipal/metropolitan level there may be the housing, school and special port police departments among others. There are about 15,000 municipal police departments in the U.S., but the NYPD enjoys a special status among them. It boasts of over 40,000 regular officers in addition to around 13,000 special purpose officers in different police departments such as animal cruelty, beach, harbor, hospital, housing, port, railroad, sanitation, school, and transit and transportation departments. There may then be specialized units under specific departments’ e.g. airborne, bomb If you are in business for yourself and you make it, people will say you got lucky. If you fail, they will say they told you so. It’s a no-win situation for you unless you make a success of yourself. Cash is king and people can’t really argue about your bottom line—all the people who judge you can’t really say much when you can buy and sell them. But it’s more than that…it’s daring to dream. To ask why not? To take a path less traveled. Knowing all that I know from my experience in business I thought to myself, why don’t you help people by giving them step, by step instruction that would save them the time of having to think and rethink everything when they are starting a business. Why do people have to “reinvent the wheel” every time they decide to go into business? It’s exhausting to have to think through all the details a person has to know and do to set up a business, especially those without experience. So I did Handling The Customer from Hell : How Can You Turn the Tide In Your Favor? Are you thinking about going into business? A new business idea is an exciting, hope filled time where people can see themselves reaping the rewards of a good idea and hard work. Things like financial independence, new cars, nice homes and the like and cash…lots and lots of cash. But thinking about success at the beginning of a new business venture is much like thinking about standing on the moon holding a flag. Easy to think, not so easy to do. To get to the moon you need one hell of a plan, engineering teams, scientists, computers, industrial facilities and tremendous amounts of human capital and effort and the financial resources of a nation. If you don’t have all these ingredients and more, you will never get to the moon no matter how much you believe you can do it. The bottom line--you have to have the skill, the equipment, the people and the money to do anything of any significance in business. And many, many people lack one or more of these requirements when they venture off towards success in business.Almost anyone who has worked with the public has a horror story to tell about a difficult customer. I'm talking about a particular type here: the usually loud, upset, sometimes aggressive or intimidating ones. Having worked in Customer Service roles for two decades, I've had my fair share, especially when I worked in a Returns Department.Over the years I've found that there are right and wrong ways to deal with them, and the route you choose can mean the difference between them leaving happy or vowing never to spend another penny with your company again. Here are some suggestions that may help you the next time you're faced with The Customer from Hell.Do's and Don'ts to Keep in Mind When Dealing with Difficult Customers#1.Do listen to them carefully.Sounds simple, doe Being in business for yourself is one of the hardest things you can do to make money. Why? For starters, as an under-capitalized entrepreneur without the resources to hire a staff, everything thing that has to be done in your business will probably be done by you. You are going to have to conceptualize your business, create a startup plan, setup the bank accounts, setup the place of business whether home-based or off site. Every detail has to be thought through which encompasses the business, business management, advertising and marketing, sales, customer services, accounting, law and more. Every thought, every note, piece of paper, every form, every policy, every procedure will be implemented or over seen by you. And you haven’t even made any money yet! Then there is the business equipment--the computer equipment, the software and other equipment you may have to learn and, if you have a website, you will also have to learn (or know) code to develop your site into something professional. And if you plan to sell on your website, you have countless other time consuming issues you will contend with to convince people to buy your products or services online. Let’s not forget about compliance with local, state and federal authorities either. You will need to be in complete financial and legal compliance to operate your business and you will have to account for your income and expense for tax payments either quarterly, semi-annually or annually depending on your business. The best bet is to hire an attorney and accountant to help you with these issues. But most startups, especially home based businesses can’t afford to hire these professionals and either neglect these issues or are consumed with the mind-numbing tasks associated with managing the legal and financial activities of the business too. And then you need to think about your business: you need to think about what happened yesterday, what’s happening today and what will happen tomorrow, next week, next month and next year. There are no vacations for people who are struggling to setup and get a business going. Even IF you escape from work, your business is always on your mind. This lends itself to anxieties, sleepless nights, constant fatigue, and under-performance (which leads to slacking sales) which leads to a vicious circle that ends in defeat for 80% of new startups within the first two years of business. That means 8 out of 10 business will fail within two years. And of those that survive, 50% or more of those will be gone in five years. Don’t forget about your competition either. Having over 20 years of business experience and having functioned as a real estate consultant, business consultant, residential and commercial mortgage banker and more, I have witnessed people, with a dream bigger than reality, risk their savings, their house, family, everything for their business which ended in failure. A few and I mean a FEW people make it. But I often wonder, wouldn’t it just be easier to get a job? Let someone else pay the taxes… Thank God for entrepreneurs. Because of entrepreneurs we have the greatest country on earth in these United States. We have every conceivable product and service known to mankind at our fingertips because some people, a rare breed of people, chose to plow head-on towards their business goals, against all odd, over every obstacle. And you haven’t even made any money yet!Often you see job postings with a request such as “Send resume with salary history to…” I don’t know about you but the first thing that pops into my mind is what do they expect to pay? The next question I ponder is whether or not it’s legal to request this information. Who will see my salary history when my resume and accompanying documents are received? Will it be the hiring manager, someone in the human resources department, or will it be a notoriously nosy employee whose job it is to open the mail? Will that individual broadcast my confidential information to other employees? Some employers use this tactic to save themselves time and weed out applicants that expect more than they are willing to pay or, based on their view of your past compensation, don’t appear to have the skills or experience necess Then there is the business equipment--the computer equipment, the software and other equipment you may have to learn and, if you have a website, you will also have to learn (or know) code to develop your site into something professional. It’s exhausting to have to think through all the details a person has to know and do to set up a business, especially those without experience. So I did Earnings Claims from Franchisors our products or services online. There has been talk at the Federal Trade Commission of requiring Franchisor’s to give earnings claims in their disclosure documents. The franchise rights groups want it and the consumers need it to help them make a decision. But unfortunately with all the litigation in our nation it is too risky for franchisors. The Federal Trade Commission put forth a report on franchising last summer and has been reviewing the franchise rule in our country. Chances are and most agree in the franchise industry that earnings claims should not be required but should be considered for those franchisors who wish to sell more franchises as it will improve their sales. On page 26 of the Franchise Report; the Federal Trade Commission made reference to a potentially gray area of this rule and said they believed that a statemen Let’s not forget about compliance with local, state and federal authorities either. And of those that survive, 50% or more of those will be gone in five years. Are you disorganized to the point of finding yourself spending more time trying to locate things rather than actually working?Typically at work there are probably two main areas that lead to a sense of complete disorganization: 1. Your deskIf you're the type of person who believes that how busy you are at work has a direct correlation to the amount of paper on your desk, you need to get this thought out of your head.Do you print out virtually everything that you come into contact with and then pop it onto a pile on your desk for future reference? Have you run out of space on your desk to actually create new piles?Start by figuring out the difference between things that need to be printed and things that don't.Then figure out what you have that should be kept, a Don’t forget about your competition either.
