The exuberantly interesting video game, Tom Clancy’s Splinter cell: “Double Agent” is the 4th game in the series of Splinter cell video games. The American author Tom Clancy has once again presented the game with his super hero Sam Fisher, the lone Splinter from the Splinter cell from Third Echelon of National Security Agency in United States. The game is sponsored by Ubisoft. Originally the game was scheduled to be released in March 2006 but was later postponed to a date in September 2006.
Compatibility features
For Xbox 360, a compatible version of “Double Agent” was released on October 19th 2006. Then on October 26th 2006, the versions compatible to PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube were also released. The PC3 and Wii versions came up on 10th of November and 19th of November respectively. The Unreal Engine used in Chaos Theory was modified to make “Double Agent” compatible to all such devices.
The plot
A few days after completion of the mission Chaos Theory, Sam proceeds to Iceland to investigate suspicious activities in a geothermal plan there. His first associate was a rookie who gets killed during the mission. On return, Sam gets the saddest news of his life that his daughter has died being overrun by a drunken truck driver. He becomes so upset that he is unable to concentrate on work and is set out of the active service by authorities. Later again Sam is offered a Non Official Cover Agent rank. Sam was dramatically prepared to pose as a notorious criminal. The sole aim was to prepare him to infiltrate John Brown’s Army, a terrorist organization. He is put together in jail with a criminal of John Brown’s army. They together plan and break out of prison and then Sam’s mission starts which aims at saving the mission as well as himself.
The change
Some interesting changes as compared to previous static event games were made in this video game version. Such changes are kidnapping of Lambert by JBA and making Sam the decider of Lambert’s life. A romantic angle with Enrica Villablanca, an eco-terrorist is also there. Players need to be active always since the next state of game will be determined on the basis of their action only. Even a major character may loose his or her life if the player slips in decision. The current day device compatible version has only one single player mission while the future time device compatible version will have two single player missions. The map size of the game have been increased to accommodate more players.

The Game Play
“Double Agent” is vastly different in style and operation compared to “Pandora Tomorrow” and “Chaos Theory”. Originally it was titled as the Third Echelon versus Upsilon Force and the number of players has been raised from two to three. Spies have less direct combat abilities here since they do not have the sticky shocker and elbow strikes. But they move much faster and have a hacking device with which they can hack remote objects like switching the light off, opening the doors and neutralizing the mercenaries etc. Mercenaries on the other hand have been provided with a remote controlled drone that will follow the spies in spaces where mercenaries cannot reach. However, in the Xbox and PS2 versions these differences are not there and spies and Mercenaries both have exactly the same set of equipments. In a multi player version, the players will have to select which side they will be on.
Objectives and equipments
The task given to spies is to search and get two files that are encrypted from a set of four terminals around the area. Wrist computers are used to hack the terminal. They try to reach closer to the terminal to hack it. To win a specific number of files are to be retrieved and spies have to return to headquarters. The equipments in this game are Wrist Computers, Vision modes, Syringe, Grenades, Smoke Grenades, and the jammer for spies while rifle, vision modes, grenades, Drones, and proximity detectors are for the mercenaries.
Conclusion
The Splinter Cell Series as well as its fourth delivery the “Double Agent” are constantly gaining in popularity. In November, 2006 the British Official Xbox Magazine gave it a score of 9 out of 10. The game is not only imaginative but also an excellent exercise for increasing the anticipations and intelligence of a person.
