On January 4, 1974, President Nixon signed into law the Daylight Saving Time Energy Act of 1973. Clocks were set ahead for a 15 month period until April 27, 1975.
In 1986 a Federal law was amended to begin Daylight Saving Time on the first Sunday in April at 2 a.m. and ending at 2 a.m. on the last Sunday of October. It is NOT observed in Hawaii, the Eastern Time Zone portion of the State of Indiana, and by most of Arizona.. The rules vary significantly throughout the world. About 70 countries utilize Daylight Saving Time.
