Back-to-School List - 10 Tips for Trade Shows your dynamic, informative Web site)expose your business to new markets you may not otherwise reachThere’s a new year beginning now - the school year. Whether you have children attending for the first time or finishing university, it’s always hectic to get into the back-to-school routine. And, if you don’t have school in your family, there might be your own remembrance of the excitement of starting afresh and learning something new. This is a great time to review your trade show program in the same way you prepare for school.Pick Your School = IndustryIt’s a business school question - Are you a railroad or a transportation company? In other words, what business are you in? If you consider your industry a railroad, you will be concerned with rolling stock, laying track and logistics. If you consider your industry to be transportation, you will consider the railroad as a method of transportation - the same principles apply whether you run rail cars or airplanes. There’s a engine, a carrier compartment, and now most importantly, customer focus. Railroads have to lay track, airlines have to have airfields, so there’s difficulty in physically moving to meet customer demand. But railroads adapted by allowing piggybacking - truck trailers on flatbed rail cars. Airlines serve more markets with the hub and spoke system. You should look deeply into your own industry and determine customer focus for the next 12 weeks and 12 months.Pick Your Classes = ShowsWhile your firm is part of an Industry, in times of slowing business there are two avenues you can take to garner more sales. One is to hunker down and bore deeply into your niche, the other is to expand into other industries. If you are missing even one of the applications in your marketing portfolio, you are loosing business.Autoresponders are designed to help you manage your online business and internet marketing campaign. Generally, autoresponders can do the sending of your quick messages to your clients/website viewers. These quick messages can be a ‘simple thank you’, which can serve as a relationship builder between you and those who viewed your site. These website viewers are prospect customers, and should be followed up properly. Another thing is, those quick messages can just be a confirmation of the viewers’ intention of subscribing in your mailings, which will prevent you from getting reported as spam sender.Indeed automation of messages is time saving, giving you more time to focus on other factors that can help in the growth of your business. You can even do business while sleeping or doing other stuff. The primary consideration in this type of messaging is how you fashion your message for the benefit of your prospects. In other words, for you to convert more leads into sales would require a good structuring of your messages – updates, promotions, etc. Furthermore, to prevent your automated message from being flagged as spam, you should send messages that cater your prospects’ need and can penetrate stringent spam filters. For the meantime let’s just focus on ways to prevent your autoresponder emails from ending up in spam filters or from getting reported as spam. The first thing is, introduce your company to your prospects and tell them how you obtained their email address. Together with this, you can embed a link – say revisiting your site, to make sure that the email you have added in your list came form legitimate viewers. The learning does not appear to stick’ yet what really impacts performance is not visible. To understand the situation it helps to see what habits and forces keep things in place. The temptation and habit of blaming the people, particularly with respect to performance, is signaled by phrases like: they should have; she/he should have and other phrases that indicate energy being directed to find individual faults totally ignoring the deeper systemic and evolutionary forces that are drive and create the dynamic. Training is often used to ‘fix’ the people without paying attention to the deeper forces driving the issue. When the external environment is perceived by the individual to be unsafe, then underlying talent will stay submerged. Humans have a long standing preference for survival and most will not push the boundary of uncertain territory beyond a zone of comfort, particularly if the systems and processes in the working environment unintentionally repress initiative and self-leadership. I was unfortunate enough today to be at the receiving end of a vicious verbal attack for registering a Top Level Domain (TLD) name.“How dare you”, I think was one of the comments made. This vitriolic tirade came over the telephone line from someone that I had classed as a “friend”. Certainly, if friendship is involved, this person has made very little effort to understand anything about me. Because I had spent considerable time and effort, as well as a financial cost with the aim of providing this person, her husband, and their business, with a tool which I thought may have been useful for them. But, I shall come back to this point later. This scenario highlights the importance for anyone in business to not only have a web site, but to register multiple domains.Food is one of my passions in life, so lets take it as an example. I am an Aussie, and the meat pie is about as Australian as a pavlova or a lamington. Lets also suppose that your name is Joe, and you have sent up a business making and distributing meat pies. You have done a search and have found that the name “JoesPies” is available to you. You are an Aussie with an Australian business, so you are entitled to add the extension “.com.au” after the “JoesPies” part. You have your web site designed and published, and over a period of time you are getting increased traffic to your web site resulting in sales of Joe's Pies. Life is good! However, some time down the track there happens to be another Joe who wants a web site or sites. Or, it may even be a Fred or a Mary. They do a search and find that “JoesPies” with each of the extensions .com, .net, .name, . biz, .info, are available. A dilemma for Joe, Fred or Mary is which one to choose? Well, my advise for what it is worth would be to register the lot. It is exactly the same advise I would have given the first Joe if he had asked me to protect his business.m having a Web site. * Open up a virtual storefront that creates an additional sales channel * Sell products online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week * Introduce new products to the market faster * Compete with big corporations based on service, price, and quality * Capture the impulse buyer * Accept credit card orders online in real time * Optimize existing advertising (add a .com to ads directing customers to your dynamic, informative Web site)expose your business to new markets you may not otherwise reach * Establish credibility with potential customers * Provide fast, personalized service to customers * Provide answers to frequently asked questions 24 hours a day * Offer special packages or deals through your Web site * Display testimonials from satisfied customers * Send customers exclusive online coupons or discou The Power of Upselling, Tips and Examples your dynamic, informative Web site)expose your business to new markets you may not otherwise reachBefore I get into how Up-Selling can benefit you and your sales, let me answer the question:What is an Up-sell?An up sell is when a customer is ready to order a product, or already has ordered a product from you, then you immediately offer a complimentary product. This is the most common example of a perfect upsell:You go into your local fast food restaurant , (Burger King, McDonalds, etc.) your hungry and want to get something to eat. What does confirmed opt-in mean? And, is it for you? Well, first let's define the terms. Then, we'll discuss the advantages and disadvantages so that you can make your own decision - and I'll throw in my two cents. Single Opt-In (with a subscriber acknowledgement email) is the most widely accepted and routinely used method of obtaining email addresses and permission. A single opt-in list is created by inviting visitors and customers to subscribe to your email list. When you use a signup tag on your website, a message immediately goes out to the subscriber acknowledging the subscription. This message should reiterate what the subscriber has signed up for, and provide an immediate way for the subscriber to edit her interests or opt-out. Confirmed Opt-In (a.k.a. double opt-in) is a more stringent method of obtaining permission to send email campaigns. Confirmed opt-in adds an additional step to the opt-in process. It requires the subscriber to respond to a confirmation email, either by clicking on a confirmation link, or by replying to the email to confirm their subscription. Only those subscribers who take this additional step are added to your list. ISPs and corporations are now doing everything they can to stem the tide of spam flowing into their users' email inboxes. Without a foolproof solution to turn to, some ISPs, like Road Runner (@rr.com email addresses), now require confirmed opt-in for email delivery. They do this because the subscription tracking c
